VAW Regional Conference
ON September 21st and 22nd The NGO Caribbean Development Foundation held a regional conference on domestic violence.
The conference was held at the Cascadia Hotel in St. Ann’s Port of Spain,Trinidad and was funded by The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The objective of the conference was to bring together NGOs from across the CARICOM area working towards the prevention and eradication of domestic violence in the region.
The conference focused mainly on NGOs providing shelter and
assistance to women experiencing violence in the home.
The purpose of bringing these NGOs together was to have them
identify the problems they experience in the delivery of their services to victims of domestic violence ,and to have them recommend solutions to the problems they identified.
The conference successfully met its objective. Coming out of the conference is a list of recommendations to improve the level of support provided to women experiencing violence in the home. The document is called the ‘Cascadia Document’.
The conference was facilitated by Dr. Victoria Pasley, associate professor at Clayton State University in Atlanta.
